It was not all that long ago that I discovered that facebook had created a way to build a page for various purposes. At first I thought that making a page for this website would be over-the-top, as it seemed most of those purposes were geared for money-making-sites.
I recently re-thought that, and have created a page for Karl and Nádya's Blog. If you are logged into facebook, you can become a fan of our site, and even leave comments or visit with other readers.
There is not a whole lot there at this point, but you will probably want to at least check out the video of Kylie dancing. As a completely un-biased father I can say that it is one of the cutest things I have ever seen.

Away
Since you went to the trouble of visiting, I thought I would let you know why there are no new posts at the moment. We have moved to our own house (it is ours as long as we pay rent, anyway)!
Unfortunately that also means that the internet is not installed there yet. I have been writing posts, though, so there will be plenty to read when I get that data and an internet connection in the same place at the same time. I was going to do that today, but forgot the data at home.
It is really interesting how having the internet to communicate makes it so much easier to be far away from home...

The Big Birthday
As I mentioned in my last entry, Patrick came. He had a birthday, and we celebrated by going to a restaurant and having pizza.
Of course, pizza here is different than in the US, so we introduced him to two new (to him) “flavors” of pizza. First we had chicken and catupiry (a creamy type of cheese) pizza, and finished up with a banana and cinnamon pizza. The second was exceptional in my mind, but both were good.
Afterward we had ice cream (!!). It was a very enjoyable evening.

I have gotten a few questions in the past weeks from people who have missed an entry, or two. If this was you, its great that you asked me, but I thought I would give a couple of tips on how this blog (and many others) works:
A blog is a web page that is meant to be updated frequently. So, the newest material is on top–if you want older entries, you have to go to another page. There are two ways to get to other pages; the first is to click on the entry title under “Previous Entries.”
The second way to find old entries is to find the “Archives” menu on the right, and click on a month. All the entries from that month will show on one page.

Real Life Is Now
When I was in high school, I and my friends would look forward to the day that we graduated, and began “real life.” Sure, sometimes we were nervous about it, but over-all we looked forward to it.
This past year I have found that “real life” is an interesting cocktail of good things and bad things. Sort of like those really sour gummy worms; you know, the ones that are sour on the outside, but then, after that initial shock they are really sweet.
After Nádya's surgery yesterday, we are putting off traveling to our new town of Parauapebas, Pará. It will probably be at least a week. This may mean that we cannot have the same jobs that we were lined up for (and possibly not have work at all). But we are following doctor's orders here.
Nádya is doing well, and recovering from the surgery. She is very strong. My initial understanding was that we would get the results of the biopsy today. I was wrong. We find out Tuesday, and will update you as soon as we can.
I am in the process of recovering from all the jet-lag, and getting into the swing of the schedule here. This is the first day that I have had to do some resting since returning. And, while I was there (in the US), I did not have much time for resting, either.
My parents are moving to Idaho (they already have, technically, but have a few things to wrap up at the old house), so I had to get my stuff ready to move, as opposed to just storing it. So, I spent the first week getting that done, and the second week getting my truck ready to sell.
The weekend between those two weeks was spent visiting my grandparent's house in Idaho (as well as my parents, and other family). Essentially, I hit the ground running, and have not stopped since.
It was good, though, to hear from those of you who read that you read. Sometimes I wonder if it's really worth writing all this down, when I see so few responses from it. I am not trying to fish for emails or comments, here (um... not that it would hurt you... :D). Sometimes, though, it is very difficult to gauge whether or not I am accomplishing what I set out to communicate with no responses.
There is much more to say, but I will save it for another entry. For now, I will say that it was very interesting to visit the USA with a dramatically different view of life, politics, and such.
By the way, if you are a Google Earth user (I highly recommend it), you can look at the city where we plan to live and work by typing in Parauapebas, Brazil to the “Fly To” tab.

Updated Site Feed
I updated the feed for this site yesterday, so you may want to re-subscribe, if you use that service.
If, perchance, you do not know what a feed is, let me try to explain it:
On this site, as in many others, there is a small orange square in the menu bar to the side. On this site it is above the button that says “I power Blogger." If you click on that button in Internet Explorer, you will get a bunch of text that does not make much sense. If you have a more advanced browser, such as Firefox, you can bookmark the page that opens, and when you click on it, it will show you the latest headlines.
Its a pretty cool little trick that a great many websites are offering. If you do not have Firefox, you can download it from this website simply by clicking on the aforementioned button underneath the archives section.

In addition to that feature, there are many other advantages to the Firefox browser. For example, it has a much higher security rating than Internet Explorer. So its worth a try, right?

The Archive, and the Future
I was about to make up my mind to move the blog here before the internet fiasco. I decided for sure the day after. Funny how this stuff works.
There are a lot of reasons for the move, but the primary one is ease of use for me, along with more readily available customization. I did move most of the old entries from the old blog to this one, in case you want to read about it all in one place. The downside of that is that the photos did not get moved.
You may, however, still view the photos here, if you wish. [Link removed because it no longer exists. Will try to get the photos somewhere else. (April 12, 2008)]
Another positive thing, is that you do not have to have a certian type of email address to join the comments. If you wish to leave a note saying how much you hate my blog--er--no, you would not do that... Anyway, you can say stuff in the comments very easily.

"I will NEVER do that!!!"
Never say never:
Yep, its so true. Even if it is somewhat self-negataory. I myself have said that I would never do many things that I eventually ended up doing. For example: I guess I was about 13 or 14 when one day my mom drove me past Multnomah School of the Bible (that was its name at the time), and I remember seeing the grounds-keepers pulling weeds in the flower beds. We had a conversation that went something like:
Mom: “When you go to college you will have to work at a job like that.”
Karl: “I don't want to go to college, and if I did I will not pull weeds.”
Mom: “Maybe you will be in that very spot someday pulling weeds working to pay for your education at Multnomah!”
Karl: “I will NEVER go to Multnomah!”
So, here I am a graduate of Multnomah Bible College. It took me longer than most, and yes, I did end up in that very spot pulling weeds thinking “Oh my word... I said I would never do this!”
Life is full of ironies
I also said at some point that I would never travel to South America. I thought it was to boring, to close, and was far more interested in Europe. Ha! I am now attached for life to South America! I still maintain a very high interest in Europe, but I have a feeling I will travel to Brazil a lot more than anywhere else in the world in the future.
