Our Baby's Name

Kylie Nicole
Soon we will be parents on the outside, which means that we will have to have something to call the child. We actually started on this long before we even had any idea what the sex of the baby was.

Not only did we have the normal pressures around choosing a name, but there are two languages and cultures involved. This increases the names that will not work, not only from a pronunciation perspective, but from the list of names one or the other of us did not like. We also took into consideration the length of the last name. My last name is long enough, but Nádya's makes mine look pretty reasonable, and our child will probably have to have part of Nádya's and mine.

I don't know when it was that we settled, but it was long enough ago that we are totally accustomed to calling her by her name. When we talk about her, or to her, we call her by her name. How cool is that? (It is really, really cool.)

Kylie: Attractive

Nicole: Victory of the People

Yes, I know there is another meaning for Kylie (you can look it up if you are that curious). Yes, I do find it a bit humorous. But either way I love this name: Kylie Nicole.

We are heading to the doctor soon (maybe today—this doctor does not schedule appointments), and when that happens I will write out a pregnancy update.

  1. Well, I must say that 'GramdPa' agrees with Karl about being comfortable with the name even before birth!

    With much anticipation, Dad
