When we got to our destination at about 3 AM we took a taxi to the pousada (sort of like a cheap roadside motel in the states) where we stayed. This place is owned by a relative named Gerlândia, so we got rides to the beach from there. She was very excited to have us, and was very gracious to take us to several beaches, and to her house on the beach with her son Edson, and her friend Antonia (in the pictures). It was also nice to have someone trustworthy to take some pictures of us playing in the surf.
We got sunburns despite applying liberal amounts of our R$25 (US$10) SPF 45 sunscreen (it was a 120 ml bottle). Mine was pretty bad, but it is getting much better as of today.
After the few days there we took another bus back to Teresina, and barely endured its torture. We were sunburned and tired, and the only seats left were in the very back of the bus, right next to the roaring diesel engine, and the bathroom. Also it is probably the most jouncy part of the bus, so when one of the numerous potholes, or speed bumps are encountered one is sent flying in the air.
That is not to say that we were ungrateful to be there. We needed to return to Teresina to make a phone call about her visa, and we purchased the last two tickets on the bus. As we were purchasing them a man came up and asked for passage to Teresina. He was turned down because we were in line first.
So far marriage has been much much less stressful than planning for a wedding, or being in the wedding. We enjoy that a lot. God has been very good to us.
